Clarence
Clarence City Council is located on Hobart's eastern shore.
The Clarence Bicycle Working Group is chaired by Cr Bree Hunter and meets four times a year to provide input into the implementation of the Clarence Cycling Strategy.
February 2025 - Have your say on the draft Clarence Cycling Strategy. There are 16 key objectives in the strategy aimed at improving the cycling network. Consultation is open until 14 March 2025. There is an interactive map where you can drop a pin to highlight issues and provide feedback.
Projects
Council started linking isolated sections of foreshore pathways in 2007 and branded them the Clarence Foreshore Trail. Missing sections have incrementally been constructed and older sections upgraded.
Clarence St is an important cycling route, being flat and direct, and connecting Howrah and Tranmere to Rosny Park and the Tasman Bridge.
A proposal to provide an off-road cycleway between the Tasman Bridge and Sorell. A section at Rosny has been constructed and the remainder is identified in the Greater Hobart Cycling Plan and the Clarence Cycling Strategy.
A combination off shared paths and on-road bike lanes are needed to improve this corridor.
Bastick St & Riawena Road, Montagu Bay
Sept 2009. Several collisions and near-misses have been reported between bicycles accessing the Tasman Bridge from Riawena Rd and cars turning from Leprena St who fail to give way. Clarence Council has addressed this issue by increasing the visibility of cyclists by installing a green bike lane across the intersection and re-linemarking the give way line for drivers.
Pass Road & Tollard Drive, Rokeby
As a developing area with subdivisions increasing the population along Pass Road and in Rokeby, it is important that active transport provision is provided to connect people to local services and shops.
July 2017 - As part of traffic calming, new linemarking on Tollard Drive includes bike lanes. The roadway was wider than necessary so the bike lanes helped to soak up excess road space and provide a safer cycling environment.

Kangaroo Bay Drive & Bligh Street
Oct 2015. As part of the project to reconstruct Kangaroo Bay Drive and upgrade the intersection with Rosny Hill Rd, bicycle stand up lanes and storage boxes have been included at the intersection. The storage boxes allow cyclists to move to the front of the queue where they are more visible and best postioned to cross the intersection.
A shared path is also under construction alongside Kangaroo Bay Drive that will link the Clarence Foreshore Trail at Bellerive Boardwalk to Rosny Park, providing a safe and confortable route for families and novice riders.
Kangaroo Bay Rivulet Track
The Clarence Bicycle Strategy and Action Plan identifies a path alongside the Kangaroo Bay Rivulet (which runs from Kangaroo Bay to the Meehan) to link the Clarence Foreshore Trail to Warrane and connect up sports facilities, residential areas and educational facilities in between.
2017 - A section alongside Rosny Golf Course between Rosny Hill Road and Gordons Hill Road was constructed in gravel.
2018 - As part of the Clarence Foreshore Trail upgrade a link was provided to a path through Charles Hand Park and the Rosny Hill Road overpass but was poorly designed and needs realigning and upgrading,
BMX, pump tracks & educational tracks
Apr 2016. Council constructed a children's bike education track in Wentworth Park near the existing children's playground off Salacia Ave, Howrah. The track includes traffic lights, roundabouts and intersections to help children develop their knowledge of road environments as well as practice their cycling, overcome the wobbles and learn to stop, start and steer.

Seven Mile Beach to Cambridge pathway
Sept 2015. Council completed a gravel multi-user pathway between Cambridge Primary School and Seven Mile Beach. This provides for walking and cycling between Cambridge village, Acton Park and the recreational amenities of Seven Mile Beach. It also offers improved access to the Tangara Trail.
Oct 2012. Council constructed a gravel multi-user pathway alongside Estate Drive in Acton. Plans are being developed to extend it along Acton Drive towards the Tasman Hwy. Council has also carried out shoulder sealing along a section of Acton Road which improves safety and comfort for faster road riders.
